Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Women’s Ski Camp for Beginning and Intermediate Skiers
1. How do I know if I am intermediate skier?
You mostly make parallel turns on blue runs.
2. What do I need to do to be prepared for the ski camp?
Our goal is for you to have fun while learning to ski or improving your skiing. The better conditioned you are, the more fun it will be. If you exercise on a regular basis, start placing an emphasis on your core and quadriceps muscles. Strengthening these muscle groups will help with balance and endurance. If you don’t exercise, now is the time to start a program so you can maximize the benefits of the camp. Due to the fact that the base of Alta is above 8500 feet, remember to drink water on the plane and be well hydrated upon arrival. This will help you acclimate.
3. What clothing do I need?
Base Layer
Your skiing base layer wicks perspiration away from your body to keep you dry, warm, and comfortable during a full day of skiing. Skiing base layer clothing should be lightweight and tight fitting to keep the heat in and the perspiration out. This can be almost anything but cotton.
Mid Layer
The mid layer is the insulating layer which keeps the heat in. It should be lightweight such as fleece.
Outer Layer
The outer layer--ski jacket--must be breathable and comfortable. This layer protects you from getting wet and at the same time keeps the warmth in without sweating. It’s helpful if this has a hood.
Hat or Helmet
Most of your body heat escapes through your head, so it is important that you have a well fitted hat or helmet.
Gloves
Ski gloves should be comfortable and well fitted for holding poles. Please note: driving gloves are not warm enough.
Socks
Good stretchable wool or synthetic “ski socks” (made for skiing) will keep the feet warm. Socks need to fit smoothly under ski boots. One pair is optimal in the boot.
Goggles/Sunglasses
These should be large enough to protect your eyes from wind, snow and sun. You can never tell what the weather is going to do. The sun can be strong and reflect off the snow from different directions. Goggles are a must.
Sunscreen and Lip balm
Sunscreen and lip balm are vital to protect your skin from the sun and wind, especially at higher altitudes. The higher the number the better.
4. What should I do about skis, boots and poles?
Skis, boots and poles are included in the package price of the camp. Staff from the Deep Powder House Ski Shop will fit you for equipment. You’ll use the same equipment throughout your stay.
