A 15% service charge is added to all winter lodging rates. The service charge contributes toward employee wages. In this way, Lodge employees earn a guaranteed living wage throughout the season without having to rely on tips, and we maintain a lodge environment with a high level of service where guests are not expected to tip. The service charge on dining and lodging is taxed at the tax rate applicable to the dining or lodging (as required by Utah law).
The 15% service charge does not apply to summer lodging rates.
Town of Alta sales tax rates: Lodging: 13.92%; Dining Room and Bar: 9.85%; Retail: 8.85%.
Pets are not allowed at the Lodge. Dogs are not allowed in Alta or anywhere in Little Cottonwood Canyon, because the area is a protected watershed. People bringing unlicensed animals into Alta are subject to citation and large fines, and the Alta Marshal enforces this strictly. Please see Town of Alta for regulations. You can also refer to our Policies.
Alta Lodge makes every reasonable accommodation for people with disabilities, and we do accommodate service dogs that guide or perform a task for a person with a disability. Please inquire with us in advance if you require a service or guide dog to accompany you during your stay.
In keeping with the tradition of mountain lodging, we do not have televisions in the guest rooms. We do have one large-screen television in the Deck Room, a small television in the Sitzmark, and one in Kids’ Club.
Free wireless internet access is available throughout the Lodge.
Complimentary guest laundry facilities are available on the lower level of the Lodge.

Snowbird is only a mile away from Alta Lodge and free public transportation is offered between Alta and Snowbird during the winter. Skiers who buy the Alta-Snowbird pass can ski to and from Snowbird when the ski connections are open, weather permitting. Lodge guests may also return from Snowbird via ski connection at day end, weather permitting; please ask for details on this option. Also, we are happy to shuttle guests in the Alta Lodge van within the Alta and Snowbird resort areas.

We would be happy to hold a dinner for you. In lieu of a late dinner hold, we can offer a credit on your stay for the missed dinner.
The Sitzmark Club is a classic ski bar located in the original building of the Lodge, which dates back to 1940. Guests must be 21 to enter. The Sitzmark opens daily in the winter season at 4:00 pm.
We encourage our guests to book directly with Alta Shuttle for shared or private, door-to-door transportation to/from Alta Lodge. Please refer to Getting Here.
A car is not needed – everything you will need is right here in the Lodge – and a car is not recommended due to limited parking. The potential for heavy snow storms while you are at Alta is greater than at most ski areas, so eliminating driving is a worthwhile consideration. Please refer to Getting Here.
Winter access between the historic buildings of the Lodge and the roadway is by the main entrance stairway with 59 steps, and by the Lodge ski hill. Some areas of the Lodge are not accessible by wheelchair from the Lobby, and the Lodge does not have elevators.
In summer, the Lodge is accessible by the main stairway or by the four-wheel-drive access road, with Alta Lodge van service. Guests may call the Front Desk to arrange a shuttle or for assistance with luggage.
Alta Lodge is actively committed to making reasonable accommodations for people of all abilities to ensure the greatest and most convenient access possible to the Lodge. Please ask at the Front Desk for a manager if you need any assistance during your stay, or if you have questions about accessibility. A courtesy phone is located at the top of the entry stairway with a direct line to the Front Desk. For more information, please see Accessibility and Accommodations.
We recommend Mountainside Sitters for babysitting services in the Lodge. For winter daycare, we recommend the Alta Children’s Center, conveniently located at Alta’s Albion Basin and providing care for infants and children 6 months and older.
